MOBS Pitching Instructor and General Manager, Boby Johnson was born in Miller, Missouri in 1997. At the age of 4 Johnson and his family moved to Mooresville, North Carolina where he started playing baseball. Johnson traveled across the United States playing the sport he loves. In 2012 he and his family moved back to Miller, Missouri as he entered his freshman year at Miller High. A multi-sport athlete, he played varsity baseball all 4 years of his high school career and received many honors including All-State Pitcher. In addition to baseball, Johnson was an All-State Wide Receiver on the football team.
Following high school, Johnson continued his pitching career at Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, Kansas. During his college summers he played in the Show Me Collegiate League in Springfield, Missouri and the Mink League in Nevada, Missouri. He then transferred to Division 1 Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. He was awarded 2nd Team All-Missouri Valley Conference Relief Pitcher.
After Johnson's Junior Year at Bradley, he was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 16th round of the 2018 MLB draft. He went on to pitch for the rookie league teams of the Boise Hawks in Boise, Idaho, and the Grand Junction Rockies of Grand Junction, Colorado that summer. In 2019 Johnson was moved up to Low-A and pitched for the Asheville Tourists of Asheville, North Carolina. The 2020 pandemic did not allow for baseball, but the year after in 2021 Boby was placed to pitch in Spokane, Washington for the High-A Spokane Indians. In 2022 Boby was sent to Spokane again, where after being named Colorado Rockies Organization Pitcher of the Month in August, he would be called up to play for the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats of Hartford, Connecticut.
As of today, Johnson is excited about his new role as an Owner/GM of Mickey Owen Baseball School and the opportunity to teach players the game!
