Local family to breathe life back in to Mickey Owen Baseball School

August 17, 2023 - Historic Mickey Owen Baseball School, located in Miller, MO along Route 66 is a well-known name in the Baseball Community.  Founded in 1959 on the fundamentals of baseball, MLB player Mickey Owen created a rural baseball masterpiece.

Nearly 65 years later, local Miller, MO professional baseball player Boby Johnson, wife Dalyn, and family intend to revitalize the historic camp loved by so many.   After being released during spring training by the Colorado Rockies organization, Johnson knew he needed Baseball to remain a part of his life.  Prior to leaving for Spring Training, Johnson's in-laws were introduced to Paul Satterwhite, owner of the MOBS property and part of the Ballparks of America ownership group by a mutual friend.  A "like" vision for where the nostalgic MOBS needs to go over the next 1-3 years facilitated an agreement.  "Our family is grateful for this opportunity and appreciative to the Satterwhite family for helping to make it a reality", states Johnson.

Co-owners Caleb Hillhouse, a standout all-state baseball player at Verona High School and wife Lynna (Hadlock) Hillhouse, a standout all-state volleyball libero at Miller High School are no strangers to sports or the hard work it will take to revitalize MOBS.  Caleb works construction for his family's business and Lynna co-owns Three + Co Clothing with her two sisters.    Plans to restore the historic site include: Upgrading 6 existing baseball fields Renovating the "Dining Hall" as an Event Center Restoration of 18 original players cabins MOBS Pro Shop Indoor sports training facility   Plans are currently underway for the 1st Annual MOBS Home Run Derby and Alumni Reunion on Sunday, October 1, 2023.   For up to date information visit mickeyowenbaseball.com and follow us on Social Media.
